Casa de Colón

This emblematic place is located on the site of the old house of the governor, the only real representative of the crown of Castille in the Canary Islands in 1492.

The museum has magnificent courtyards and exhibition halls, where it is possible to relive the travels of Columbus, its passage through the islands, the relations of the archipelago with America, the history of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, pre-Columbian America, and also admire its Interesting art collection.

San Ana's cathedral

It dates from the 16th century and is the largest building on the island. It has a late Gothic interior mostly. But you can also find other styles such as baroque or neoclassical inside. If you want to enjoy the best panoramic views of the Vegueta neighborhood, do not forget to climb the side towers of the Cathedral.

Inside the Cathedral, there is the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art. This museum covers an important collection of the city's religious heritage.

Canary Museum

Founded in 1879, The Canary Museum is a scientific and cultural association that has among its objectives the conservation, research and dissemination of the archaeological heritage of Gran Canaria. In it, you can find the largest ethnographic collection dedicated to the ancient Canaries.

The visit to this museum is a mandatory stop if you want to know the culture that developed in Gran Canaria before the European conquest of the archipelago, culminated in the late fifteenth century.

Plaza del Espítitu Santo

Original kilometer zero and starting point of the water network of the Island. The Plaza del Espiritu Santo, have an 17th century hermitage and several stately constructions in its surroundings. In the center of the square is an original stone fountain drawn by Ponce de León.

Plaza de Santa Ana

The Plaza de Santa Ana is in the heart of the Vegueta neighborhood, which can be considered as the city's main square. The governmental and ecclesiastical buildings have been concentrated in it. The guardians of this square do not go unnoticed, as they are the well-known Dogs of Santa Ana.

Vegueta. the place where Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was born.

The old town of Vegueta, is located in the south of the capital of Gran Canaria. This became the foundational heart of Las Palmas in the late fifteenth century. Today, this beautiful neighborhood is a small sample of traditional architecture, with cobbled streets and houses with wooden balconies. The visitor can enjoy excursions with historical flavor through a tour of artistic styles such as late Gothic and Renaissance.

Plaza y Ermita de San Antonio Abad

The core of the city is located in the Plaza de San Antonio Abad. In it, there is a hermitage with great historical value because it is said that she prayed Christopher Columbus during one of her stops in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on her route to America.

To commemorate this historical event on its facade a commemorative plaque has been arranged.

Plaza del Pilar Nuevo

Behind the Cathedral, is the old meeting place for women who collected water from the central pillar. In this Plaza del Pilar Nuevo, a unique stone fountain is preserved and is the place where the Handmade and Culture Market is held.

Vegueta Market

Founded in 1787, the Vegueta market is the city's first supply market. It is located on the avenue that connects the neighborhoods of Vegueta and Triana, opposite the Pérez Galdós theater.

Port Market

Within a building classified as a Cultural Interest Property is the first supply market of the Canary Islands. In this market it offers a great variety of products, at the same time that you can enjoy a great gastronomic offer and a wide range of cultural activities.

Atlantic Center of Modern Art (CAAM)

If you are passionate about contemporary art, you will find bold art exhibitions at the Atlantic Center for Modern Art.

This cultural institution was founded in 1989 and is managed by the Island Council. The most outstanding peculiarity that distinguishes this museum and art center is the tricontinental vocation of its artistic and thought practices.
